We have now extended our evening hours from 5:30pm to 6:00pm to better accommodate parents who are working in Wellington City, Lower Hutt, Petone, or other locations within the Wellington Region.

So, our hours are now:

Mon-Fri 7:30am to 6:00pm   –  52 weeks per year (excluding statutory holidays).

To celebrate Matariki in June we hosted “family fish and chip night”.  To prepare for the special occasion, the children brought in a vegetable from home and we made a tasty vegetable soup to serve on our matariki night.
The children also harvested our home-grown herbs, making small bouquets to give to each family on the evening.  Finally they prepared their (more…)

To continue the children’s interest in Te Ao Maori, we visited the Maori exhibition at Te Papa in July.  The children enjoyed everything from the bus ride into the city to singing their waiata on the marae.
We also had the opportunity to visit the Natural Forces exhibit.  We were blessed to have many parents and whanau join us for these (more…)

In April Lily-Grace asked her teacher “What is a Marae?”.  Her teacher used this question to develop a learning project.  She first asked the children what they knew about “marae”.  Then they read books and made their own papier mache marae and learnt te reo words about marae.
Finally, the teachers organised a visit to Orongomai Marae which was greatly enjoyed. (more…)

Smiley Faces Educare held a Bring Your Bike Day on Friday November 15, 2013.  With two roomy sealed areas to cycle around, and a section of footpath linking the two, the day was a huge success and great fun was had by the children and the Smiley Faces Team.  We finished off the session with yummy fish’n’chips lunch under our bigplumtree.
