We’re Inspired By These Thoughts:

Now Accepting Babies and Toddlers

We now have spaces available for under 3 year old children

Newborn Baby

It seems so recent that your child was a tiny newborn wonder.  Now you have the challenge of finding care for them – where they will be treasured and cared for, and can learn to socialise with other young children.

We have recently opened our fully refurbished centre dedicated to babies and toddlers.  This new centre offers under 3 year olds purpose-designed facilities and outdoor exploration and play areas supported by our team dedicated to the under 3’s centre. Come visit us and experience our homely atmosphere and new facilities.  Our new centre is right next door to our existing over-3’s one and retains the same homely design and feel.  And, when the time comes, we manage the transition to the over 3’s centre to ensure your child remains settled and happy.

If your child has an older brother or sister, having the two centres under one licence and right next door to each other means there are plenty of opportunities for “visits” and for your older child to support and care for their little brother or sister, if that’s what you would like.  We will work with you to develop a plan for your child that works for you and your child, and meets your needs.

Our Values and Teaching Philosophy:

We believe that each child is unique in their personality, family and cultural background and their way of learning. These qualities are respected by the teachers, who work with them in positive, appropriate ways to nurture their sense of belonging and willingness to learn.

Teachers at Smiley Faces Educare provide a warm and caring, challenging, stimulating and enriching environment, which encourages a culture of creativity, exploration and investigation to help build a firm founding for life-long learners.

Intent Focus at Smiley Faces Educare, Upper Hutt

Our teaching practice is built on noticing, recognising and responding to a child’s voice – both verbal and nonverbal – and interests of individual children and groups of children. This practice follows the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education – read more here.

This feeds into a teaching programme which promotes literacy, numeracy and technology opportunities, learning activities, projects and many other interactive and fun learning moments which can be experienced by each child.

Our teachers are professional leaders in their field with an understanding of children’s development and learning. Teachers are supported to undertake professional development so that they can continually improve learning outcomes for children.

We believe that Whanau/families are the most important people in their children’s lives, and our teachers will make sure that they communicate with them in partnership to strengthen the learning experiences and opportunities for their children.

We value the dual heritage of Aotearoa, New Zealand, and believe in an honest and active commitment to the Tiriti o Waitangi, aiming to promote Tangata Whenua and global language and culture. We enjoy and treasure our multicultural childcare environment and invite you to check us out!

Our Childcare Services:

Where:  Smiley Faces Educare, 1 Fraser Crescent, Upper Hutt.

When:   7:30am – 6:00pm  Mon-Fri, 52 weeks per year, except public holidays.

What:  A child-centered learning environment where teachers look for what we call “Wow!” moments that provide clues to each child’s  current areas of interest, and enable mini-projects to be developed and led by the child.  This results in each child gaining the maximum satisfaction from their learning experiences and exploration of their world.

Meals:  Optional morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea can be provided from as little as $10 per week for a child attending 20 hours per week under the ECE programme.  The ECE support means this $10 per week can be the full cost for 20 hours of childcare every week, including meals.

Nappies:  These are included within our standard service for under 3 year olds, or can be provided by the family or caregiver.

More:  Parents receive regular newsletters and each child has a learning portfolio that is shared with parents, and into which parents and caregivers can add comments, feedback, and observations about their child’s development at home.
